Research

My clinical and research interests are in malignant hematology, cancers of the bone marrow, blood, and lymph nodes. My major research interest is in understanding the early events in leukemogenesis. In recent years, we have learned in great detail about mutations and epigenetic events that result in malignant transformation of a hematopoietic cell. However, major questions remain about the earliest events in the transformation process, how oncogenic stresses are tolerated by cells, and if those early events result in long-lasting changes that represent therapeutic vulnerabilities in cancer cells. I am interested in understanding how hematopoietic cells respond to a leukemia-initiating event and possible therapeutic vulnerabilities that emerge as part of that response.
