Advances in the treatment of solid tumors are dependent on our understanding of their intricate substructure and how tumors relate to their environment. My research is focused on applying bulk and single-cell RNA sequencing as well as spatial transcriptomic profiling to better understand tumor substructure. In particular, I focus on the relation between tumor cells and normal cells across different tissue types, and how these foster the growth and spread of cancers. My current focus is applying these methods to better understand the spread of metastatic colorectal cancer. My ongoing goal is to continue genomic research in gastrointestinal malignancies, using single-cell and spatial multi-omics to deconstruct the interplay between tumor cells and their microenvironment, with an eye towards identifying cell types and programs that can be targeted in phase I clinical trials.
