Research

I am a physician-scientist dedicated to providing top-notch patient care and accelerating the development of safe and effective therapies for patients with cancer. My research interests focus on understanding the complex interactions that constitute the tumor microenvironment and applying this knowledge towards the development of new cancer therapies.

Globally, I am interested in the development of novel immune-based therapies as well as understanding and improving the safety and outcomes of existing immune-based therapies. Specifically, my research program focuses on elucidating the interface between tumor cells and the surrounding immune cells to inform a translational immunotherapy effort to develop novel treatments for solid cancers. Furthermore, I am interested in understanding the biology of, and response to, immune-based therapies in regards to relevant associated toxicities including cytokine release syndrome, immune effector associated neurotoxicity syndrome, and immunotherapy related adverse effects.

I focus on treating patients with skin cancers and my clinical focus aligns closely with my research interests. My goal is to improve the care and outcomes of cancer patients through efforts to invigorate or supplement the immune system to thwart cancer while minimizing toxic side effects. In addition, I collaborate on numerous studies involving targeted therapies and biomarkers that correlate with response or outcome.
