I am interested in the molecular mechanisms through which hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) evolve into leukemic clones. I am researching how cellular stressors, including inflammatory, genotoxic, and replicative stress, impact HSC behavior, how mutant HSCs respond these stressors, and how this interaction between cellular stress and HSCs harboring certain somatic mutations promotes leukemogenesis. Specifically, I am focused on the mechanisms through which TP53 mutant HSCs evolve into cytogenetically complex myeloid malignancies. Clinically, I am interested in the development of novel therapies against this poor prognosis disease.
